Metal Weight Calculator

Choose a common stock profile or enter a custom density, then calculate estimated mass without creating an account. The calculation keeps geometry, unit conversion, and density visible so the result can be checked.

02 / Method & limits

Make the calculation checkable.

How the estimate is calculated

Mass = cross-sectional area × length × material density × quantity. Hollow profiles subtract the inner area from the outer area before volume is calculated.

Worked example

A 1 m long steel bar uses its selected cross-section to determine volume; that volume is multiplied by the selected density and quantity. The calculator shows both the per-piece and total estimate.

Assumptions and limits

  • Profiles are idealized and do not include corner radii, mill tolerances, taper, coatings, or removed material unless the selected shape explicitly models them.
  • Density varies by alloy, heat treatment, temperature, and supplier; use a certified material value when purchasing or lifting decisions depend on the result.
  • This is a mass estimate, not a certified shipping, structural, or lifting calculation.
